K 64–66
Insurance brokers and agents, investment and loan intermediaries, banks, insurance companies, leasing and holding companies – for broker pools, software providers, product providers and training providers.
75,338 businesses in Germany according to Destatis, business register, GENESIS table 52111-0010 (reference year 2024, table updated 21 September 2026). Section K financial and insurance activities (divisions 64 to 66). We quote the size, contact coverage and price of your export on request.
Section K “Financial and insurance activities” has three divisions. The first two contain the institutions themselves, the third the intermediaries and service providers around them. Sales lists usually mean this third division.
A special case is group 64.2 “Activities of holding companies”. It contains holding companies from all industries, including the family holding of a mechanical engineering firm. They have nothing to do with financial services in the usual sense.

Anyone who brokers insurance or investments or conducts banking business needs a licence. Both lines of supervision keep public directories.
These 15 columns are included.
For a product provider, the difference is fundamental: a broker acts on the customer’s side and chooses among many providers, a tied agent brokers for one company. The classification of economic activities puts both in one class. The status is shown in the intermediary register and in the intermediary’s initial disclosure – not in a company list.
If an intermediary is a sole trader, their data is personal data. The fact that it is public in the intermediary register does not change that; the register website prohibits use of the data for advertising purposes.
For banks and insurers: branches and offices are not separate companies; in a list of companies, the institution appears once at its registered office.
We are a software company for broker management systems and are looking for insurance brokers (66.22) in North Rhine-Westphalia with a website and phone number, split into companies and sole proprietorships. Holding companies (64.2) should not be included. How large is the selection?
